If you know the lake you are fishing and know where any inlets or creeks run into the lake, these are good spots to try for Walleye. This is also true for weedbeds or any sharp drop offs. Walleye can be caught in shallow water but are more often caught in 15ft to 30ft of water. There have been many Walleye caught on Perch lures, while fishing for Perch. But usually a large lure works best. Silver coloured lures along with bright coloured lures will also work along with your favourite bait.
The same ice fishing rod and reel will work for Walleye, with 8lb to 12lb line. You will be fishing 4 to 6 inches off the bottom. Walleye like a moving lure, so let your lure touch the bottom and then raise it up 4 to 6 inches, and then let it go back down to the bottom, not too slow, Walleye like a fast jigging motion. They will usually strike while your jig/lure is going back down to the bottom and when you are ready to bring your lure back up you will feel a heavy pull on your line. You must set the hook and keep a tight line when retrieving the fish in, no slack as a Walleye will spit your hook out more so then any other specie.
